Northeast Harvest has a few education programs that it helps to teach over the course of the year. During the Topsfield Fair, Northeast Harvest sponsors the Farm to Fork Class, which is one of 12 education programs offered during the course of the fair. The other opportunity is Student Ag Day. This is run during the spring and offered to schools, as an educational experience for their class.
Farm to Fork Class
Northeast Harvest sponsors a Farm to Fork class during the Topsfield Fair for local students in Essex and Middlesex counties. The class discussion is about where their food comes from. Our goal is to teach students that all food comes from plants or animals, that food has to be farmed, caught, or grown at home, and that food changes from farm to fork. Students test their knowledge of dinner table classics with the Farm to Fork Challenge activity. This class is concluded by thanking our local farmers by having the students make a card that we distribute to our farmers in Essex and Middlesex counties!

Student Ag Day
Student Ag Day is a program that Northeast Harvest puts together to educate students in Essex and Middlesex counties about the importance of Massachusetts Agriculture. The program is put on in the Spring and is open to schools located in Essex and Middlesex counties. During Student Ag Day, students can participate in eight hands-on activities supervised by leaders from agricultural industry professions. A farm-to-table lunch will also be served to each child, free of charge. The mission of Northeast Harvest is to help consumers discover, enjoy, and support the farmers and local agriculture. Through our Student Ag Day, Northeast Harvest hopes to fulfill this mission with our youth while also providing teachers with a standards-based opportunity to educate their students on the importance of this industry.
