DESCRIPTION:Skip the pasta machine and get ready to use your hands to create orecchiette (little ears)\, cavatelli (dimpled pasta) and more with Chef Emily! This simple pasta dough has just three ingredients\, and is easily shaped by both big and little hands. Parents and kids will work together to mix and knead their dough\, shape the noodles\, then share a delicious meal using local produce and meats from Appleton Farms. Chef Emily will use the finished pasta to demo an easy seasonal recipe and everyone will have time at the end to eat. \nMenu: \n\nOrecchiette with Brown Butter\, Butternut Squash\, Pork Sausage and Sage. Does not contain eggs. This dish can be made vegetarian or vegan.\n\nYou MUST purchase a ticket to attend this class. Each child MUST be accompanied by at least one adult; and adults are not allowed without kids. This class is appropriate for ages 6 and up. Please note: one ticket is required for each attendee – both adults and kids require a ticket for entry.  \nIt is recommended that your sign up far in advance because this popular class will sell out! Please notify us of any allergies or food preferences within 1 week of the class date and we will try to accommodate them as best we can. DESCRIPTION:Cooking together and having fun in the kitchen makes our farm family happy and we want to share that enthusiasm for cooking with you. We will make homemade rolls and top them with freshly made Jersey butter. We will learn about how our cows turn green grass to creamy\, nutritious milk\, then enjoy the sweet fruits of our labor together. This program is designed for families with children ages 5-10. This program meets in the kitchen at the Old House. \nPre-registration is required as we can not accommodate drop-ins for this program. SUMMARY:February Vacation: Kids in the Kitchen
DESCRIPTION:In the winter most people hunker down to stay warm\, but at Appleton Farms\, we make the most of the cold\, quiet season. There is no better place to spend winter farm days than in the kitchen! \nThese programs are for kids who love to cook\, explore\, and be adventurous in the kitchen\, and out on the trails. Each day kids will explore a different aspect of farm-to-table cooking\, trying new foods\, and learning about where our food comes from! \nOur morning will be filled with kitchen time\, followed by an outdoor adventure of hiking\, snowshoeing\, and farm explorations. We’ll return to the house to eat our creations before heading home. \nChoose the days that work for you or come for all 5 days! Each day will be a new kitchen adventure: \n\nMonday\, February 17 | Homemade Pizza Dough and Fresh Mozzarella\nTuesday\, February 18 | Sneaky Beet & Carrot Brownies and Homemade Butternut Squash Icecream (veggies for dessert!)\nWednesday\, February 19 | Homemade Butter and Scones\nThursday\, February 20 | Seasonal Salads with Various Dips and Dressings\nFriday\, February 21 | Pasta Making (handmade) and Veggie-based Sauce\n\nThese classes are NUT FREE and VEGETARIAN\, but they will include dairy\, gluten\, and other potential allergens. All recipes can be made egg-free. Please email appletonfarms@thetrustees.org if you have questions about allergies or to request an egg-free option. If your child has an allergy\, please send them with an epipen. The Kitchen at Appleton is NOT an allergy free space so there is always a slight risk of cross contamination. \nThis drop-off program is designed for children ages 6-10 and preregistration is required. \nMember Child: $36 \nNon-member Child: $45

DESCRIPTION:Join the Verrill Farm bakery team over school vacation and learn about some of the science behind the french dough known as “pate a choux”. Students will learn mixing and shaping techniques and will make a variety of goodies with this one simple dough. Class will cover cream puffs\, gougères and more! We love this season and want to share it with you! Join us for our Sugar Shack Saturdays to see how we collect and turn that sap into delicious maple syrup. \nMeet at the Carriage Barn at the historic Appleton Farmstead where we’ll learn about the maple sugaring process. Then we’ll take a short walk to the maple tree row where we’ll learn how we tap the trees. We’ll then walk to the sugar shack to see the maple sugaring in action. We’ll be tasting the sap and maple syrup. You won’t want to miss this maple sugaring experience! \nRecommended for ages 12 and under (and families) but everyone is welcome! Space is limited. Registration is by the family- if you have 6 or more in your family\, please register two (2) families. There are two time slots for this program. DESCRIPTION:Let Italian Native Luca Mignogna take you on an unforgettable pasta making journey! As you arrive\, the smell of hearty\, earthy Boscaiola sauce cooking on the stove will excite your senses and prepare you to dive right in. Luca will take you from start to finish on the pasta making process – from flour to dough to different pasta shapes. \nFirst\, take a step back in time as you explore pasta’s roots and key role in the Italian culture. Next you will discuss the importance of ingredients in the pasta making process. Together you will learn the techniques for making different types of pasta on the machine\, and then you will finish by making tagliatelle. Then Luca will demo cooking the pasta and tossing it with this creamy mushroom and sausage sauce\, perfect for your winter appetite. \nYou will enjoy the fresh pasta you just made in this warming winter dish…Tagliatelle alla Boscaiola. This class will leave you with the tools and the desire to make fresh pasta at home every night. Join us! \nOur hands-on cooking classes are structured as a group learning experience; you’ll work with other students to create a seasonal meal led by our professional chef instructors. We focus on learning new cooking styles and techniques to increase your confidence and enjoyment in your own kitchen. Here are a few things to know before booking a class with us: \n\nEach class is centered on the local\, seasonal farmers\, so menus may change slightly based on what’s available the day of the event.\nDuring each class\, you’ll learn 2 or 3 recipes\, you’ll work together as a group to create them.
