DESCRIPTION:While groundhogs can’t actually determine whether or not we will have an early spring\, Groundhog Day is a fun tradition that offers us time to reflect on the changing season. \nDrumlin Farm’s own groundhog\, Ms. G\, was declared the Official State Groundhog by then-Governor Deval Patrick on July 31\, 2014. He signed the proposed bill submitted by Wellesley’s Hunnewell Elementary School students\, enacting it into law. \nThe live groundhog forecast starts at 10 am\, followed by winter activities such as meeting resident wildlife\, exploring wilderness trails\, family-friendly groundhog crafts\, and learning how to identify animal tracks in the snow. Visitors will also learn how New England wildlife survives the winter and how the changing climate impacts their habitat. \nThis event is included with admission (free for Mass Audubon members\, $9 adults and teens; $6 seniors\, children 2-12 for nonmembers).

DESCRIPTION:Let’s get outside and learn! “Appleton Farms After School Adventures” offers a chance for kids to explore\, learn\, and play in the fields\, garden\, barnyard\, and forest. These series’ offer elementary-aged students the opportunity to participate in environmentally focused\, farm-based activities led by our experienced education staff. Through educator-guided experiential learning\, students explore sustainability\, agroecology\, life cycles\, soil science\, history\, and more – making important connections to their ongoing learning and development. Activities include plenty of time gardening\, hiking\, and exploring. \nThis is an educational afternoon drop-off program for children ages 7-11 offered on Thursdays for five weeks. Program dates are January 5\, 12\, 19\, 26\, and February 2. Your fee covers all five sessions. Children should be prepared to spend days outdoors and should pack a snack and dress accordingly.

What happens in winter around the farm? We invite little farmers to experience life at the farm in winter. Through farm “chores\,” age-appropriate hands-on activities\, stories\, and visits with our barnyard animals\, little farmers will become fully immersed in what life is like for a farmer. \nThis program is recommended for children age 2 years 9 months to age 4. Adult supervision is required for this program. This is not a drop-off program. This Preschool Farm Explorers DROP-IN CLASS is a once-a-week\, one hour long preschool farm experience. SUMMARY:Moonlit Hike
DESCRIPTION:Experience Willow Spring Vineyards trails through the woods behind the vineyards by moonlight. Both guided & self guided hikes available. Return after your adventure to our grand outdoor fireplace or come inside to warm up with refreshments.   No hikers after 8:00pm.  Tickets available here. The full hike is about two miles. It can take more than an hour.  Shorter routes are available. Limited bar available; we accept major credit cards. This is a family friendly event. All ticket prices are the same. The paths are ungroomed but can be navigated by young children. We reserve the right to require proper dress/footwear before allowing you on the trails. Well behaved\, leashed pets are welcome outside. *You must clean up after your pet(s).
