Open Farms, Farmers’ Markets and CSA Programs!
May 28, 2020 1:17 pmOpen Farms- UPDATED
Last month, we put together a list of farms that were open in Essex and Middlesex counties. We realize that the need to continue providing healthy food options for our families is still important and we have updated our list. We will continue to do this throughout the summer too!
Some are offering online orders, curb-side pick-ups or other resources. It’s important that we continue to support our local farms and help our community members too.

What are “CSA” programs?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs have become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer and contribute to the sustainability of local agriculture. Here’s how it generally works: A farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Interested consumers purchase a share or half-share and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
This is a mutually beneficial business relationship of shared risk and shared reward. The farmer works hard to deliver a beautiful and bountiful amount of produce each week, and hopes that Mother Nature cooperates.
We’ve compiled a list of CSA programs in Essex and Middlesex counties. Please visit their website for more information and availability. Due to the current situation, some of the Spring and/or Summer CSAs may be ‘sold out,’ however Fall shares may be available.
