National Dairy Month
June 10, 2022 4:05 pmThe month of June is recognized as National Dairy Month across the country. It began in 1937, as a way for grocer organizations to distribute extra milk during the summer months. Dairy farmers are committed to providing nutrient-rich food that nourish people and also help our community.
Did you know that dairy farming in Massachusetts began in Plymouth in 1624? Dairy farming maintains 113,600 acres of open space and land preservation in the state and is an essential part of Massachusetts agriculture and our traditions. We are fortunate to have many dairy farmers in Essex and Middlesex counties:
- Appleton Farms – Ipswich
- Clover Luck Farm – Pepperell
- Dancing Goats Dairy – Newbury
- Dunajski Dairy – Peabody
- Great Brook Farm – Carlisle
- Herrick Farm – Rowley
- Richardson’s Dairy Farm – Middleton
- Shaw Farm – Dracut
- The Herb Hill Micro-Dairy – Pepperell
- Tully Farm, Inc. – Dunstable
- Valley View Farm – Topsfield
During this month, we honor their work and their continued support of the community. To learn more about the dairy industry, visit: https://www.newenglanddairy.com/
